For coarse hippo and fine dolphin skin: the recipe for hemp ointment!

⚠️ Important note: This article is for informational purposes only and in no way encourages the illegal production or distribution of cannabis products. Only use herbal blends or flowers that meet the current legal limits for THC content to make your own cannabis ointment. If you want to buy cannabis ointment, only choose products that comply with local legislation.

Care from nature

Hemp ointment is a natural lubricant that harnesses the power of cannabinoids - substances extracted from cannabis 🌿. These active ingredients dissolve in fats, which not only serve as their carrier, but also nourish the skin. Hemp ointment usually also contains beeswax or vegetable wax, which gives it the right consistency and which retains moisture in the skin, protecting it from extreme conditions like penguins thick feathers 🐧.

Proper cannabis ointment should not cause any significant side effects. But not all skin is as tough as crocodile skin 🐊! So always make sure you're not allergic to any of the ingredients, and if you have sensitive skin, it's not a bad idea to test the ointment on a small patch of skin first before using it.

For injuries and daily care: the effects of hemp ointment

Thanks to its cannabinoid content, hemp ointment has potential healing, anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects, nourishes, moisturizes and protects the skin.

It can be the first aid for treating minor injuries such as burns, blisters or insect bites 🐝.

It is ideal for the care of problematic skin prone to acne and eczema. It can also help as a lubricant for sore muscles and joints.

The power that travels the world longer than elephants travel the savannah

The healing power of cannabis has been known for centuries, it was known to ancient cultures in China ⛩️, Egypt 🏺, Greece and Rome 🏛️. It was also popular in the Middle East and Europe during the Middle Ages.

But it was not until 1964 that it was explained how cannabis actually works. The scientists behind the discovery of cannabinoids, and especially the endocannabinoid system, were Raphael Mechoulam and Yechiel Gaoni, who researched cannabis at the Hebrew University of Israel 🔬.

After the psychoactive effects of certain cannabinoids were demonstrated, cannabis was seen as a drug, but ongoing research has brought new findings and cannabis products are once again coming under the spotlight.

Cannabis has significant therapeutic potential, for example in alternative medicine or cosmetics.

Why make cannabis ointment at home?

Hemp ointment should not be missing in any household. This natural alternative to synthetic products has a wide range of uses and its effects are not only proven by centuries, but also confirmed by the latest scientific research 🤓.

Although you can find all kinds of affordable cannabis ointments in the store, making your own cannabis ointment has major advantages:

  • If you make your own cannabis ointment, you can add ingredients to it to enhance the desired effects.
  • You can use the best ingredients and be assured of premium quality.

You may need a few tries before you find a formula and process that works for you. But although making homemade ointment takes a bit of time and energy, it's definitely worth it ✨. Homemade hemp ointment is the strongest and best hemp ointment!

What do you need?

Be smart like a fox 🦊- before you start making your own cannabis ointment, think about what purpose it has. Based on this, you will choose the right ingredients, i.e. hemp, oils and other ingredients, determine their quantity and adjust the process.

Cannabinoids 🌿

Cannabinoids are the main component of cannabis ointment. These are found directly in the plant or sold in the form of isolates.

On the market you can find herbal mixtures and flowers from legal cannabis grown under optimal conditions. Cannabis blends and flowers vary in cannabinoid content and quantity (concentration).

Choose the blend (cannabinoids) depending on what you want to use the ointment for. The most popular is clearly CBD, which is known for its calming, anti-inflammatory and regenerative effects.

If you don't want to use the plant, you can also use cannabinoids in the form of an isolate to make the ointment. The advantage is that you have precise control over the quantity. The disadvantage is that you will be depriving yourself of the wide range of other cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids that the plant contains, and thus the possible entourage effect. A companion effect occurs when the substances in cannabis complement each other and enhance their effects.

Carrier fat 🧴

Next, you need to choose a suitable fat to be the carrier of your ointment. You can choose one type or a combination of several oils. Keep in mind, however, that each fat has a different density, and you will need to add or subtract the amount of wax to get the right consistency.

For intense nourishment, elasticity and regeneration, reach for olive or argan oil. Problem skin will appreciate almond or jojoba oil, which are easily absorbed. Coconut oil guarantees intense hydration. Shea butter or lard is a safe bet.

Other ingredients from the natural pharmacy

To make your product more effective, you can enrich it with other ingredients; herbs, fragrance oils and vitamins that will affect the final properties of the ointment.

For intense healing effects, reach for calendula. For irritated skin, consider chamomile or lavender. Just as whale song soothes the mind 🐋, these herbs will soothe your skin.

If you are making a cooling ointment for muscle pain relief, add peppermint to the ointment.

You can also use the power of herbs in the form of essential oil. A popular example is tea tree oil, known for its strong antimicrobial properties, which make it a popular ingredient in products for problematic skin.

Other popular ingredients for the production of skin and body cosmetics include vitamin E. It regenerates, moisturizes and has antioxidant properties. In addition, it acts as a preservative and prolongs the life of the product.

Recipe for hemp ointment

You already know what hemp ointment is, what its benefits are and why you should make it. So don't wait for anything and start making it!

Get ready:

  • Cannabis herbal flowers, mixtures or isolates of cannabinoids 🌿
  • Fat(s) based on your preference 🧴
  • Beeswax or vegetable wax if the oil base is liquid at room temperature
  • Other ingredients according to the purpose of the ointment 🌸
  • Sheet
  • Pot and bowl for water bath
  • Fine sieve or cloth for straining
  • Sterile containers for the final product

How do you do that?

  1. Activate the active ingredients in cannabis 🌿: If you use cannabis in plant material form, it needs to be heated to 'activate' the cannabinoids - much like the morning sun warms the desert after a cold night ☀️. Spread the cannabis out on a baking sheet, put it in a preheated oven at 115°C and leave it there for 30 minutes.
  1. Prepare the oil base 🧴: Dissolve the fat(s) in a water bath.
  1. Stir in the plant material 🌸: Add all the plant material to the heated oil, i.e. activated cannabis and possibly other herbs to support the effects of the ointment.
Let the mixture with the plant materials heat on a low heat for at least two hours to allow all the active ingredients to be released. Then strain it through a sieve or cloth.
  1. Thicken the ointment with beeswax or vegetable wax 🐝: If your chosen oil base is liquid at room temperature, you need to thicken the mixture with wax. Add wax to the (re)heated mixture at a ratio of about 1 part wax to 4 parts oil. The ratio will vary depending on the viscosity of the oils used - for thicker oils less wax will be sufficient, for liquid oils more wax will need to be used.

Use the test to make sure the ointment is the ideal consistency - scoop a little of the mixture onto a spoon and let it cool. The ointment should be soft, easy to spread and absorb, but should not run. If the ointment doesn't run, add more wax to the mixture; if it's too stiff, thin it with oil.

  1. You can add other substances: when the wax has completely melted, stop heating the mixture. While the wax is still liquid, you can mix in isolates, essential oils and vitamins.
  1. Pour the ointment into containers: pour the finished ointment into sterile containers and let it solidify.

⚠️ Attention! Cannabinoid isolates, essential oils and vitamins are heat sensitive, so always add them to the ointment at the end ⚠️.
